Caretaker position available:
Off-grid cabin located in our back field... stunning views of the field, trees, mountain, with no houses in sight. Loads of wildlife, peaceful and quiet. It is a small cabin with a solar panel that powers a couple of lights and radio. Wood cook stove keeps the chill off, gas hotplate for warm season cooking (or use the outside fire pit). Upstairs is a bed and storage space. Water is delivered with the horses to an underground reservoir. Hot shower, laundry facilities and internet connection are available at the farm house. Composting toilet is nestled into the woods nearby.
We raise our own grass-fed lamb and chicken, which you can enjoy in reasonable quantity. Goat milk, eggs and garden produce are also available, depending on the season. You are welcome to all you can use of these (within reason). Join our family for periodic "family supper", and eat lunch with us on working days.
Work 30 - 40 hours per week doing a variety of activities, depending on skills, season, interest and weather. Animal chores, vegetable garden work, fence construction and maintenance, building repair/maintenance, equipment (all horse-drawn) renovation, repair & maintenance, grass cutting, light plumbing & construction of small animal shelter, haying (loose hay), activities with the kids (6 & 9), and more. Work days are somewhat flexible depending on the season. Time off for longer weekends may be negotiated periodically, according to the season.
