Winter Gathering

The 2011 Winter Gathering will be held on January 29th at the Perry Farm in Brownington, VT with hosts Neal Perry and Bekah Bailey. Activities will include pulling firewood with a variety of teams and single horses, looking at different grades of cedar, and discussing the technical details of putting a skid road through a swamp.

In the past, some of you may have attended the Northeast Annual Suffolk Punch Gatherings here at Fair Winds Farm. We hope that this year's Gathering will be a similar low-key opportunity for fellowship and learning among friends old and new, with a new twist provided by an expanded cast of animal power participants. There will be a variety of house breeds present, plus mules, steers and oxen.

Friday is arrival and finishing set-up, chores, potluck supper and visiting. Saturday morning is people and animals working on projects around the farm, with weather playing a big role is determining which ones we tackle. In the afternoon there will be activities around the barn, ring, and buildings. Saturday evening the gates open at 5:00pm free of charge for those wishing to attend the DAPNet annual meeting, starting at 7:00pm. Sunday plans include hitching 3 abreast, with the event closing with lunch at noon.

There will be a reduced gate fee for DAPNet memeb ers, with an opportunity to become a member. PLEASE NOTE: In order to help us plan for meals and other accommodations,a significant pre-event registration discount will be offered until September 1. The fact that we haven't done this particular event before makes it especially difficult to estimate how manyh will attend. Give us a break and pre-register! There will b e volunteer opportunityes to reduce admission fees, contact us if you wish to find out more.
